Backswing

Your club position within your backswing can make or break your shot.
In the picture, I am putting the student into what I believe to be the perfect backswing position. Yes, it does look like his backswing is only 2/3 what most would consider a normal length. This is because you as you learn to control the club, you can do some from this backswing position better than you can a full swing.
From there, I have will him hit the ball softly. After a few swings grooving this backswing position, we can gradually start swinging a little harder. I do this to give the student a feel of where the club needs in their backswing to be able to deliver the blow properly. I will usually start with a half swing until it feels comfortable and proper. Then, I will put the student into longer and longer backswing positions until I reach the perfect full swing.
This is an easy way to pattern a swing and start playing better golf.
