Follow Through in the Sand

Sand shots can be difficult, but not impossible. Most amateur golfers do not follow through in the sand, which is the most common fault I see when giving lessons to sand shot challenged students.

Within a green side bunker, we all know that hitting behind the ball about an inch or two is proper. Many times, I see students concentrating so hard on just hitting the spot behind the ball that they forget to follow through in the sand to a full finish. This leads to the ball staying in the trap. Two or three sand shots later you’re shaking your head and your playing partners are telling you it’s OK to through the ball out of the trap with your hand wedge.

Don’t just hit the sand behind the ball, follow through in the sand for more consistency. If you do, you won’t have to use your hand wedge again.
