Keep FUN in Fundamentals

You MUST remember that golf is simply a game and is meant to be enjoyable and FUN. This may be even more the case for your more advanced or tournament level Junior Golfer, which makes it ever more important to keep FUN in Fundamentals as your Junior Golfer practices and competes.

If your child is an accomplished Junior Golfer or competes in events, they obviously have some degree of talent.  If you or their coach works them too hard, or you start to find that you or the coach is taking the “Fun” out of your Junior Golfer’s experiences, “Burn Out” is sure to follow. At any age, Junior Golfer burnout can be detrimental to your child’s experiences with and beyond golf.

Here are some pointers to keep “Fun” in Fundamentals with activities your Junior Golfer can experiences as they practice and compete:

• Playing Games = Game Improvement….and is FUN! – Make up a game or two within each aspect of the game your child is working on.  The game should address a fundamental they are working to improve.  Doing so makes practice FUN in Fundamentals.

• Reward Hard Work – Giving your child different rewards for the hard work they are putting in should be part of the program! Golf equipment, movies, music download, ice cream, a round at a great course, or anything else you can think of!  Fun in Fundamentals life skills can be reinforced the same way.

• Beat the Coach – Having friendly competitions between student and Coach, or even Dad or Mom, can help make things fun and keeps Your Junior Golfer moving in a positive direction.  This will also make your practice sessions more Fun in Fundamentals
